Coney Island collects mostly from towers. The large residential buildings along Surf Avenue, West 3rd through West 37th and up toward Neptune are elevator buildings with lobbies, which makes them among our smoothest stops — leave the bag with the desk or bring it down at the start of your window and you never have to wait for the driver. For the smaller walk-ups off Mermaid Avenue, the buzzer and apartment number are what matter.
Summer changes the laundry here completely. From May through September beach towels, blankets and swimwear come back full of sand, and washing that properly means shaking and separating before anything goes in — otherwise the sand grinds into the fibres and travels through the rest of the load. You do not need to do anything except mention there is beach laundry in the bag.
